How long after having sex do you wait to take a pregnancy test?

Me and my husband want to have a baby, we just had sex, how long do we wait to take a test?|||The acronym in the 'Trying to Concieve' or 'TTC' community is 'TWW'. That stands for 'Two Week Wait'. The reason for this acronym is because the earliest the majority of women can test %26amp; get an accurate result is two weeks.

The reason being this : Ovulation occurs, typically, between days 11 %26amp; 17 of your cycle. The first day you started spotting/bleeding being counted as the first. After ovulation *%26amp;* fertilisation it can take anywhere from 5-12 days for implantation to occur, and for a woman to actually become pregnant. Until implantation occurs you are *not*, in fact, pregnant. After implantation occurs it takes about a week and a half for the hCG to build up enough in your system to be detected by a pregnancy test.

A THING TO REMEMBER : The *only* first 'real' pregnancy symptom is a missed period. 'Early pregnancy symptoms', as in before your missed period, are too closely mimicked by PMS symptoms. Most women will only notice symptoms because they are just now paying attention when they are TTC or worried that they are pregnant. Women the majority of the time will experience breast swelling/tenderness, moodiness, slight changes in appetite, sluggishness, gassiness, etc etc simply from the hormonal shifts right before they start their period. However, these changes will be so slight that they won't notice them at all until they are paying close attention (Usually when TTC or worried that they may be pregnant). The second they do start paying close attention they notice all these things and take them as concrete proof they are pregnant when they've been occuring all along. This only makes them worse. Getting worked up over or stressed out over these tiny changes only turns the tiny changes into bigger ones, and makes them think it's further proof. Hormones are tricky like that.

Also, when the test reads 'five days before your missed period' it does *NOT* mean if your period is due on the 6th you can take the test on the 1st with total certainty that it will be completely accurate. The reason being that the '5 days sooner' tests are sensitive, but can still miss scant amounts. They actually mean that if your period is due on the 6th then your 'missed period' doesn't actually start until the 7th. Meaning, of course, that the soonest you could test is the 2nd. However, since each woman is different, and even the 'five day sooner' tests point out that their accuracy is usually in the 60%'s or lower that far away from your period your safest alternative is to just wait until after the day you expect your period. This will cut down on any 'did I test too soon' worries.

If you get your BFP (Big Fat Positive) then you will want to do a confirmation test the next morning or you can just 'hold it' for 8 hours without taking in extra liquids. The reason the tests say with your 'first morning urine' is because you are expected to be asleep 8 hours without diluting the hormones in your urine by drinking more liquids. The less diluted your urine the more accurate the test. So, if you use the restroom at noon, and don't drink any excessive liquids or use the restroom again until 8pm that evening then the test is just as accurate as with your first morning urine. However, it's harder to 'hold it' that long while awake and thinking about it. And, it can get a little more dicey to 'hold it' without feeling like you are going to burst since, of course, you are awake and will likely want something to drink.

Just be sure to always take a confirmation test, and if it is positive have it backed up by a doctors blood test.

Remember the key rules : Don't bother looking at the test after 10 minutes. It will give you the result in that time frame. Anything past the 10 minutes will only lead to confusion.

The result should be clearly evident without taking the test apart and without using a ton of lighting like a flashlight or turning it this way or that.

It should also be visible to a second person as eyes play tricks on us, and a second opinion always helps.

It is *definately* better to use a pink dye test. The blue dye tests are renowed for their false positives, and evaporation lines tend to look a little blue so they are read as positive when they are not. Whereas, a pink dye's evaporation line will still look gray or blue and not the obvious pink that it should be.

*~~*Best Wishes and Baby Dust*~~*|||It will be too early even after you miss your next period. Wait for a month more. Take the test in a morning with your first urine. Leave off the first few ounces. the second spell will do. but you can consider it positive even after the first missed period without a test but more importantly it should last at least till the third month.Good luck.|||I think the rules are at least 19 days from the conception date. I would wait until you miss your next period due date.|||After 2-3 weeks or after a missed period.|||i think 2-3 weeks
