Is banning sex offenders from sites like facebook and myspace a violation of human rights?

I have asked several sex offender based questions in the past as I have a family member who is a sex offender. I am always fighting for equal rights for sex offenders, and I would like to know if it is a violation of free speech or human rights for them to be banned from social networking sites. If it is I would also appreciate references to help me file a suit. Thank you!|||Technically it is despite what some misinformed people are saying here. It conflicts with the right to free speech and right to communication. In my opinion, if you want to keep your kids safe(and i'm a parent), DON'T LET YOUR KIDS ON FACEBOOK! Period. Its stupid, kids should be doing their homework and talking on the phone with their classmates, not prancing around the world on a social networking site. The parents are more to blame here than the web sites themselves. I would NEVER allow my child to be on such a site, it can only lead to teen pregnancy and other problems. However, most parents are lazy, and don't want to be parents, so they will elect the politician who will forbid sex offenders from those sites, even though the REAL threats aren't going to give a hoot about those restrictions. But it gives the parents the ability to say "I thought it was safe", when the truth is, they knew in their heart that it wasn't. You don't allow your kids to go to the bar or nightclub do you? Then don't allow them on face book or myspace!|||Violation of human rights? Definitely not. Violation of 1st Amendment and/or civil rights? Possibly, depending upon who's doing the banning and how the ban is implemented. The sites themselves are privately owned, and therefore can ban pretty much anyone they want just like you can ban anyone you want from your home. If this is a court ordered ban in conjunction with the terms and conditions of the offender's probation, that's perfectly legit as well and will hold up in court. If it's a legislative ban, then you're getting into murkier waters that are more complex than any pro-per litigant should be trying to deal with--hire a civil rights attorney.|||Uh, not really. If you're labeled as a sex offender, that's because you did some pretty sick stuff. You've lost your right to do whatever you want. Props to Chris Hansen for exposing these weirdos. I have no sympathy for sex offenders, as a friend of mine was hurt by one. They are banned from social networking sites because of the possibility they might use the site to contact underage children, and thus become a repeat offender. If banning sex offenders from social networking sites keeps the children of my friends and my family safe, then so be it. These days, people can sue over just about anything, but filing a suit because someone got banned from a social networking site because they're a sex offender will get them laughed out of court.|||If a privately owned company wants to ban certain users for their own reasons they should be allowed to do as they please.

What if you were told what to do and who you could talk with if you owned a company.

I do believe in self ownership without government interference with more crazy laws interfering and political correctness sucks many a time.

I too use to defend child molesters with the legal system crap that i thought to be bogus and unfair until i learned that the offenders that i knew had lied to me , stating their innocence, that they were set up and it was the kid's fault with fake IDs.

Years later I learned otherwise, the perpetrators that were friends of mine actually never admit guilt about any of their offenses and I stopped cold turkey defending them.

Truth eventually comes out and we are allowed to change our minds once we learn new information.

I know of too many criminals looking for victims on personal sites, their profiles are basically lies, they use fake IDs and their victims haven't a clue who they are meeting or chatting with.

Think carefully, I don't want my daughter online chatting with someone who is dangerous and I think while criminals are on probation or parole, meaning they have not served their sentence with the law, they should not be allowed to coerce people into their web of deceit.

Been there and done that|||Not that I agree but what is stopping them from getting an account?

Make one, make up a name. They really don't need to pull the 'violation of human rights' card - besides, how is Facebook a right?

Didn't your family member violate someone elses rights? As far as I am concerned his rights should no longer exist - for the rest of his life, but that is just my opinion.|||Membership on Facebook and other networking sites is restricted because these sites are PRIVATELY owned, and there is no RIGHT involved, only a privelidge either granted or refused by the sites owners.|||Being a sex offender is a violation to others human rights, so they give up the right to have human rights in taking others away from them|||If they violate the human rights of another human, why should they have human rights for themselves?|||Nope. The laws they violated should tkae away those rights. It is toooooooo... dangerous to the vulnerable to allow it.|||You should join the ACLU.|||It's a matter of ethics. You must be proud to defend the trash that's out there.|||NO!
