How soon after having sex can you get a urinary tract infection?

Okay, so I just recently got a UTI and the doctor said it may have been from sex. But, I haven't had sex in a few weeks so I don't think that's what it's from but I was just wondering how long it takes to get one after sex?

Thank you.|||Generally within a few days. UTIs don't always flare up all at once with all the obvious symptoms, so it's possible it's been dormant since you last had sex. Alternately, taking a bath, swimming in a pool or anything like that could also be to blame.|||I can get a UTI from using bath wash or soaps with alot of perfume or dyes. I stick to a good antibacterical plain bar soap for the nether regions. Also, wipe back not forward when going to pee. Wiping forward brings bacteria from the anal area up to the front.
